These scenes are presented by Stepfanie Kramer (Leonardo Dicaprio), who is a very wealthy computer executive, and Renata Faia (Arielle Fazzari), who is the fashion consultant. Stepfanie's expensive habits lead him to befriend an older married artist, whom he discovers is Rachel's, or his wife and son's, secret lover. Stepfanie and Renata then become best friends, as they use Rachel's secret lover to hurt her. Stepfanie and Renata spend a weekend at the artist's mansion, where Stepfanie discovers his wife's pregnancy. The next morning, Stepfanie secretly leaves a box of chocolates for his friend, with a note reading "The world is full of suffering, it is only the young who are happy."
The wealthy Stepfanie, his beautiful companion, and his son Leonardo (Franco Nero) meet Ariel and her friend at a new restaurant, where Leonardo pulls out a million-dollar bill, the amount of his latest lottery win. When the bill falls onto the floor, Ariel mistakes it for a "bad omen" and flees, leaving the impression that she is pregnant. Stepfanie then tells Renata about her "bad omen," though he assures her that Ariel's supposed "impregnation" will be a mere prank. He soon finds out that his wife, Rachel, is pregnant after all, but is distressed to discover that his child is with the artist's mistress, Gabrielle. A jealous Stepfanie then begins to plot against the artist.
