Elizabeth I (Cate Blanchett) is England’s queen – but is she a woman of peace or a woman of war?

In May 2006, a leaked script for the film was revealed. The script was written by Michael Ockrent and was later purchased by Warner Bros.
The film was shot in both the United Kingdom and in the United States. It was filmed in London and on location in Nottingham, near Cromford, Derbyshire, and East Whickham in Lancashire.

Elizabeth: The Golden Age premiered at the 2007 Toronto International Film Festival on September 12, 2007 and was released in the UK on August 31, 2008.
